Facebook Users In Los Angeles Call 911 When Site Went Down

Facebook users prove again that they’re the lowest common denominator.  Last month we mentioned that they actually had to add a satire tag for Onion articles because the majority of people using Facebook don’t understand satire.

See what I mean?  In early August, Facebook appeared to be down for several users and devices in the US.

“Facebook is currently experiencing an issue that is affecting all API and web surfaces. Our engineers detected the issue quickly and are working to resolve it ASAP. We’ll update shortly,” the note read.

A few residents in the LA area took what they thought was the next logical step. They called 911. The police department was not amused and had the following to say:

“#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue,” tweeted @LASDBrink, aka Sgt. Burton Brink, on Friday morning, “please don’t call us about it being down, we don’t know when FB will be back up!”

The LAPD went on to say that they estimate 70% of calls to 911 this year have been non-emergency calls, including an idiot who called to complain that he hadn’t gotten cheese on his hamburger.

We seriously need to start punishing stupid.

#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!
