A New York man who is currently on the waiting list for a new liver appeared in court yesterday to plead guilty to felony drunk driving. He wasn’t just a little tipsy when he was arrested either — he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.37 percent, which is more than four times the legal limit for operating a vehicle.

Louis J. Converso Jr. had been previously convicted of DWI in 2003 and pleaded guilty this time in order to limit the prison sentence he may receive. The judge warned him not to drive under any circumstances or she will immediately sentence him to the maximum of 15 months to four years behind bars. His sentencing is currently scheduled for December 1.

The liver metabolizes alcohol so if it is damaged it might not metabolize it as quickly.
Type of thing if you drink 6 beers over 3 hours you will be less drunk then if you drank 6 beers in 1 hour because your body breaks down and removes the alcohol from your blood stream. If your liver is not functioning properly it might take twice or 4 times as long to break down so you could drink a reasonable amount for a person with a healthy liver and have a crazy blood alcohol content.

If I’m not mistaken, he may get taken off the waiting list, or moved to the bottom for drinking while on said list. I remember seeing or hearing something about any proof of drinking alcohol is reason for a doctor to remove someone from a waiting list.
