Religious Nuts Say Slutty Clothes Provoke Rape

Stalk us on Facebook and Twitter or grab the RSS Feed

Some rape victims wouldn’t have been raped if they had dressed properly, according to some religious nuts handing out pamphlets in Virginia. So basically if you dress like a tramp, you’re asking for it — and leading good men away from Godliness by giving them impure thoughts.

Sexual assault program directors say they deal with this mentality all the time. However, it’s usually not printed and distributed in this way. People of all ages are victimized by rape, not just the young and pretty who dress to impress.

The pamphlet that was handed to 19-year-old Keshia Canter read, in part:

“You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed,” it begins. “Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?”

At the time, Canter was wearing boots, jeans and a pink zebra shirt with a black jacket zipped up over it. The woman who handed her the paper told her that even though she wasn’t showing skin, her clothing made men want to be sinful.

The pamphlet goes on to blame rape victims and insult men by basically saying they have no self control or choice in whether to rape, it’s all in the tempting — done by the woman.

We’d love to talk to the group who created this religious pamphlet, but the thing is signed “anonymous”. However, here’s an open invitation to get in touch, in case one of you lunatics sees this.

I don’t care if someone is walking around naked…… that should not turn anyone into a raving sexual lunatic. I am a christian and these people are SICK. That is someone that wants to make excuses for BAD Behavior. BLAME it ON someone else. GOD made us naked and beautiful. It is SICK in the head people that twist his LOVE for their own beliefs and say it is GOD doing it. Just wait until they are standing in front of the LORD. Every person on this earth is a child of GOD and he says quite plainly that is better for a person to have a milestone hung around their neck and thrown into the sea than to offend one of his children. That should tell people something!! Worry about hunger, helping the poor, helping the people of horrible crimes, batter women, your neighbor down the road that is sick or an ederly person that just needs some attention. IF THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS SICK JOKE OF A PAMPLET ARE READING THIS, then you time is better spent helping people and this PAMPLET is not it!! SHAME ON YOU!!

That’s EXACTLY the mindset behind why Muslim women are culturally required to cover themselves from head to toe! The idea (read:pathetic lazy jackasses who don’t want to take responsibility for themselves) is that if a “Man” is sexually aroused by a woman’s body, ***IT’S THE WOMAN’S FAULT****.
    convenient, isn’t it??
it makes sense, as many rightwing Xians actually admire the fundie Muslims and their backward hatefulness…..of course, of course, I’m ONLY talking about the Muslims who are fundamentalist jerks, not the majority of moderate Muslims……the majority of Xians are moderates, it’s just the fundie twits that give Xians a bad name

They make the classic mistake of assuming that rape has something to do with lust or sexuality. In reality it is all about humiliating and controlling another human being – about having power over them. This kind of thinking just perpetuates the idea that women are somehow to blame for being raped, as if it is partially their own fault. This is completely false! I am a Christian and a man too and I am offended by this type of attitude. No woman who is raped has any shred of blame or responsibility for it.

This is obviously taking it to the extreme. But, hopefully everyone knows your goods are more likely to get stolen when they are public and less secure. i.e. cash hanging out your back pocket, computer out in the passenger seat of the car, setting down your open purse. So, while extreme. Not necessarily as crazy as you fuggin idiots are stating. Just another opportunity to attack God and religion. So, two girls walk past a rapist. One has on a bikini, the other a pant suit. Who does he choose…?

He’ll choose whatever woman suits him most – not necessarily the one in a bikini. The problem with this logic is that it’s still on the woman to make sure she is not being raped, instead of the man having self control, or having an adequate police coverage so that women don’t have to walk around in groups and worry every time they walk past a man at night.

Muggers are actually looking for the goods/money-rapists are NOT just looking for attraction. Rapists rape because of the urge to CONTROL and have POWER over the victim, NOT because they are attracted to them. That is why BABIES, ANIMALS, OLD PEOPLE, OVERWEIGHT/HIDEOUS people get JUST AS OFTEN as people that are attractive. And they both have an EQUAL chance-look it up, countries where women are required to be bundled up are HIGHER sexual assault rapes than those that don’t.

Feminazi inspired myth. Young males are more likely to rape than older males – they have a higher sex drive and fewer resources to attract mates.
And beautiful women are more likely to be raped than unattractive ones, if you control for lifestyle and opportunity.
And the kicker – women who are raped are more likely to conceive as a result of the rape than women who have consensual sex.

He chooses whichever one looks more vulnerable. In fact, someone confident enough to stride down the street in a bikini might just be a little too threatening to an inadequate man who needs to use his penis to control a woman. And I don’t see anyone here attacking God, just rapists and rape apologists.

No they don’t. Once again, anyone that knows anything about the mind state of a rapist knows that rapists rape because they want POWER and CONTROL over the victim and this is their way of making them SUBMIT, NOT because they’re attracted to them. Attraction has nothing to do with rape, which is why old people, overweight people, babies, ugly people and animals get raped JUST AS OFTEN as attractive people. And why should someone’s outfit matter so much? Why should you judge someone based on nothing but the clothes on their backs? That’s pretty shallow-especially since when men are sexual, they are praised.

Anon, what’s your evidence? Evolutionary scientists strongly disagree with you. And they have theories to back up their claim that rape has everything to do with sex.

You’re simply spewing the same stupid rhetoric Susan Brownmiller came up with in the 80s.

Also, you’re incredibly wrong to say nonattractive people are raped “just as often” as pretty girls. Most girls who are raped are in their late teens and early twenties–just perfect for pregnancy.

In biology, this is called forced copulation.

However, asking women do dress conservatively is pragmatic, but kind of pompous.

    @jon, liza, etc.

You’ve got the question wrong–the question isn’t who a rapist will pick among more than one victim, but whether how a woman dresses will cause someone who wouldn’t ordinarily rape a woman to become a rapist.

If a women dresses in a sexy or suggestive way, can you control yourself? If you can’t, are your actions your responsibility, or hers?

Of course they would say that, they haven’t been taking responsibility for their own choices since Jesus died.

RELATIVITY is what most religious nuts don’t understand, if it wasn’t low cut jeans or busty shirts, it would be hoods over their heads lol. Its not about crossing a line, its about tolerance, acceptance, and self control; isn’t that what Jesus preached?

And they wonder why people turn away from religion!

ummm, actually what one wears sends a strong message. Guys don’t want this to get around because they like to ogle, but a revealing outfit does tend to say “i am willing to have sex” more than modest clothing. That’s a pretty obvious fact, without even involving theology.

Slutty clothes promote rape?!? What a newsflash! I never would have guessed it! I guess we could say that smearing honey on you attracts bees and/ or bears. Girls, it’s just like giving your house a make over: You attract attention if you do some landscaping, maybe paint some, show off your “flowers” and other shrubbery, and when they get inside your house, you ask them why they are there. Well, it’s because the outside of your house was sooooo inviting, they couldn’t help but to see what was inside. You need to welcome the guests that you invite, otherwise, DON’T PRESENT THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOUSE TO SOMEONE THAT YOU DON’T WANT INSIDE OF YOUR “HOUSE”.

That makes no sense-anyone that owns a house will testify that it makes no sense. How can you “not present the outside of your house”? Put your house in a bag? Drape your house? And even if it did, rapists are NOT after sexual attraction. They are after POWER AND CONTROL, and want to make the victims SUBMIT-that’s why they use FORCE (proven by psychologists and studies). That is why ugly people, old people, fat people, babies and animals get raped JUST AS OFTEN as those that are attractive-because attraction has NOTHING to do with rape.

You keep posting this feminazi inspired nonsense. Next you’ll post that other bit of nonsense about 1 in 4 females being raped in her lifetime.

There may be rapists who rape from a sense of powerlessness, and want to use it to exert control. However, there are also rapists who rape because they are incredibly horny, or want to have offspring.

What you wear doesn’t determine whether or not you deserve to be raped

    BUT—
We need to be helping men NOT be tempted by what we wear. We are supposed to be doing good towards them, not be stumbling blocks. AND, I’m not saying you deserve rape if you dress like a whore, but if you dress like a whore and act like one, at some point, a man is going to take it the wrong way. And if you act like a whore and encourage it, don’t cry rape afterwards.

Bull. A woman could stand naked in an alley at midnight, and if the man who is with her *is not a rapist*, she won’t be raped. Unlike many here I give my gender general credit for having self-control and knowing rape is wrong, just as they have enough self-control not to snatch a wad of bills from someone’s hand and tell themselves it wasn’t stealing because the person was asking for it.

Along with not getting that rape is about control and power, the rape apologists here also don’t seem to get that the vast majority of rapes are committed by men who are known to the victim, not some balaclava-clad stranger. Do a little reading, be aware of the fact that one in four women in this country are the victims of sexual assault, and realize that there could be a woman in your immediate family who has been assaulted and will never tell because we live in a culture that shames the victims.

Back in the late ’70s, a judge got in serious trouble for essentially blaming a teen-aged girl for being assaulted. Her “crime?” Dressing inappropriately (in this old coot’s eyes, of course). What an idiot. I can’t remember if he were censured, but he darn well should have been. Why do we continue to victimize the victims? I don’t know if anyone remembers former US Sen. Paul Trible. His wife, Rosemary, was raped at gunpoint. she talks about how she came through that experience, and went from Fear to Freedom; she’s written about that in a wonderful book that I think will help other victims and others who don’t want to be afraid. You know that saying, essentially, what would you try if you knew you could not fail?” She responded to the question, “what if you didn’t have to be so afraid and what if you could help someone else not be so afraid.” This is the result. Very insightful and inspiring.

    OH MY BABY RAPING GOD

These Christians don’t give a dunk about protecting women. This is about their own fear of human skin. Naked boobies and butts are evil. That’s it.

The grand majority of rapes happen to people who are NOT dressed in any special way, and the grand majority of women who dress like “sluts” (women who OH MY GOD wear tight jeans and a t-shirt) never have a problem with rape.

200 years ago, it was inappropriate for women to wear pants. What a load of crud.

OH, and I don’t give a dog where I left my laptop. If you are touching my stuff without my permission, YOU are the farthead that is in the wrong.
