Regretful Morning

This should be a condom commercial

Ahh the joys of parenting.  I remember I acted like this once when I kept messing up the infinite lives code in Contra.  It earned me one week in timeout from video games.  You can bet that it never happened again.

This kid makes me want to gouge my uterus out with a rusty knife.

One week from video games? Wow… you got off easy.

(I know. “That’s what she said.”)

You know, you can see him looking up to see if the camera was still filming him… by that I don’t mean to imply it was staged just that he gets some gratification when he’s filmed. They’re encouraging his behavior. Idiots.

My mother would have slapped me to the other side of the car and I’d have not touched an electronic device for a month.

Minus the slap across the car the same thing would happen if one of my kids pulled that stunt.

infinite lives in contra huh? You must have had a better code than me, mine only gave 30 lives, come to think of it that’s what it did for everyone.

This kind of whiny bitching has to be learned.
Most likely one or both parents use a whiny tone when complaining to the kids about not doing what they’re told, so when the kids are irritated or upset, they mimic their parent’s behavior.

So yes, this is obnoxious, but it’s also a comment on parenting skills.

Uhhh… I think folks are missing the real problem in this video. I’ve seen “mature” adults act way worse then this over a missed field goal or split ends. The kid is only mildly upset at the videogame anyway. It’s the camera he doesn’t like. Until Mom or Dad pointed a camera at him he was pretty controlled for a kid.

What he says is “No, don’t take a picture of me.” In other words, “Hey Dad, how about not exploiting my mildly irritated state to score you a few hits on YouTube.” Until Dad or Mom pointed the camera, he was fine, just a little whiney. He just didn’t want to be photographed at that particular moment.

Yeah, the problem here is the parents. Not because they don’t physically abuse their child enough (as has already been suggested) but because they are more interested in amusing themselves then respecting their child’s dignity a little.

However, for those of you who find this video absolutely so upsetting to your delicate ears that you want to permanently sever your reproductive organs, by all means do so. You’re too self-absorbed to raise children anyway.

That is – TurningWorm had an awesome comment that was right on every point – I thought this would associate my comment to that one because I hit it’s “reply” link – silly me.

Nothing to see here. I want my one minute back. How the f*ck did this get dugg on the front page. Having lived in NY, I see bitchiness like this every few minutes from grown men and women. A non-event.

Turning is exactly right. For one, this kid is like 3 or 4 years old. Tantrums are part of the development process. He is learning that he has personal space (kids younger are much more “communist”), and he doesn’t like mom shoving the camera in his face. For those of you who don’t speak “child”, I can confirm Turning’s translation: the kids is saying “Don’t take a picture of me”. He is focused on the game, that is true, but the response and agitation would have been the same if he was watching a TV show, looking at a book, or playing with some toy trucks. Before this shot, mom interrupted him somehow, and that annoyed him. Then, she whipped out the camera. That was immature on her part. The boy is young enough to have an excuse; what was hers?

And again, as far as tantrums go, that’s extremely mild. Remember, all of you assholes were that old once, and you better be goddamn glad someone cared enough to feed your crying, pooping, lazy ass for all those years.

My brothers and i were able to play games and occasionally a controller got broken. We were lucky enough to be able to afford whatever the cost was running for replacing a controller, and we had Mtv when it played music videos. All of this is off point.

We yelled and screamed and cried over our games, and children today get to do the same. There’s no need for you to say you would mutilate your genitals while reeling in horror that emotions happen. I hope none of you currently have children, but if you do, I hope you seek help for your own emotions.

“Don’t take a picture of me.”

Look at the flipside of this. The parent probably saw the kid frustrated by a videogame, threatened to film him “being a brat” so that “everyone could see”, and then DID SO. That parent is just as whiny and immature as the kid, and are proving with this that it is their fault he is the way he is.

    Asshole parents.

The (relatively mild) reaction this kid has to being exploited for the amusement of his parents is justified. This is just bad parenting.

Thanks. Thanks parents for not disciplining this child, but instead video taping him and thus reinforcing vg induced rage. Ye parents are indeed the salt of the earth. By salt I mean sh*t. Good luck with the teen years!

Good observation. Initially like others I hadn’t realize that he was saying “don’t take a picture of me”. The more mature thing would have been to calmly tell the kid that dying is part of a video game, and to not get upset over such minor things. There was no need to bust out the camera here.

But I do I think it’s really easy for everyone who’s commented (including myself) to bitch at the parents from an outsider perspective – in real life we commit similar faults all the time without being aware of it, just like them, whether it be with kids or whoever.

Now that’s the problem today, this kid needs to be physically abused with a leather belt. See how that generation turns out, worse than anyone else. Smack them, if Children’s Services take them from you for that, good riddance. :P

The child looks at the camera and screams “No! Don’t take a picture of me!” That’s why he looks up. It’s not staged and I don’t think he gets gratification from being filmed. If anything it ticks him off.

I agree that the kid is fine. Saying he’s a brat with 30 seconds worth of back-story is fucking ridiculous, but of course, we are all Internet people.

I would say, though, that it’s hard to judge the parents as well. The video ends right after he shouts, and you can’t just cater to every single whim your child has. The child has to learn at some point that if he doesn’t like something, tough shit. To a certain degree.

Family pointing a camera at you isn’t all that bad, you know? So lay off the parents, too.

Oh, and furthermore, my father one time took an audio recording of my brother freaking out over nothing, and the next time my brother started freaking out, he popped the cassette in the stereo.

      Parenting brilliance.

Getting a swat for being obnoxious is hardly child abuse. And yes, anyone acting like that needs a good swat and needs their toys taken away until they learn not to scream and whine.

As for people being too self-absorbed to have children, it’s a good thing that some of us are intelligent enough to know we can’t tolerate that kind of behavior and don’t go around breeding. There are enough people out there who think kids are all Kodak moments and have them without having the first idea how to raise them and we wind up with things like this.
